A Psychobiography is defined as applying a personality theory to the study of an individual’s life.
Step One: Choose one or more of the personality theories discussed in class and apply them to your life.
Step two: Describe and explore the theory with an integration of the material to your biography.
Step three: Do your best to pick a theoretical orientation that either you believe in or one that seems to fit your life.
TIP: You can draw from the biographies in each chapter and how the theories have been applied to those individual lives. These will lend themselves as examples to help you conceptualize and apply particular theories to your situation.
Organization of your paper: Your Psychobiography should include the following:
Introduce the importance of studying your critical life events and the critical event.
Include a coherent thesis statement.
Theoretical perspective. Include information concerning the theory (or theories) to be used in your Psychobiography.
Interpret your life (or key life events) chronologically through the lens of your theoretical perspective.
Demonstrate how your behavior throughout your life so far can be explained theoretically—reference theoretical underpinnings of significant life events and everyday activities.
Reflect upon the assignment (i.e., what did you learn about yourself).
In grading, I will be looking for:
Your understanding of the theory
Your ability to articulate ideas and how well you can apply the theoretical concepts to real situations
Your paper should be 5- 6 pages (Including cover page and reference page), double spaced and typed.
Include a minimum of 3 references, excluding the textbook.
A total of 4 references, including the book.
Use APA style when in-text citing in the body of the paper and on the reference list.
You can write this assignment in the first person tense.
