Institutions, no matter how large or small, face problems. And oftentimes, multiple solutions present themselves. The solutions are often contradictory, which creates conflict. And issues are exacerbated by the intricacy and complexity of both the problems and potential solutions. Because of this, little change occurs.
For this essay, we will explore an institution plagued with problems: the American prison system. Though I am providing a general topic, you can explore any issue you want within the prison system. I listed some below. Your paper will host the following information:
Introduction: You will want to provide the reader with an in-depth overview of the problem. Leverage facts and statistics. Discuss the history that led to the current problem. Explain the social, cultural, and/or political ramifications of the problem.
Range of Positions: Here, you will highlight all of the varying solutions and approaches to problem. Objectively summarize diverse and dynamic points of view. Include arguments and ideas from all over the spectrum: conservative, progressive, and everywhere in-between. You might also explore case studies or look at prison systems outside the United States.
Solution(s): Based on the range of positions, provide a comprehensive overhaul of the system. What changes need to be implemented to improve the state of the institution?
The essay should be 10 – 20 full pages in length (this does not include the works cited page). You must cite at least 10 credible sources.
The introduction contextualizes the issue and the conflict, as well as potentially the need for compromise
The introduction prepares the reader for the essay.
The tone remains unbiased.
