Avery is a 7-year-old girl attending 2nd grade. She is having difficulties in school. Her teacher stated that Avery appears to be smart and makes good grades in all subjects except Math and Spelling. Her teacher reported Avery has a difficult time paying attention and listening during those subjects, and can often be seen drawing instead of listening, and/or staring out the window daydreaming. When the teacher tries to redirect Avery, Avery becomes very angry and emotional and often becomes so disruptive that she is sent to the principle’s office. Avery’s teacher stated “I am tired of dealing with her negative behaviors. She does not appear to want to learn and is disrupting the entire class. I’m certain she has ADHD and her parents need to get her on medication quick!” Avery’s mother reported she did not believe Avery had many friends at school and described Avery as “kind of a loner”.
