There are many ways people encounter politics throughout their daily routines. No matter what it be, they always make their appearance to people. One way that I encounter politics in my everyday life is through paying taxes. I pay for my car, my tuition to attend GMC, as well as other expenses. All of these payments I have to make, however, are less concerning than other issues. One issue, in particular, is a very controversial topic among the United States today. This issue happens to be immigration. This specific political issue was especially under fire during former President Donald Trump’s elected time in office. Trump saw the illegal immigration that was happening every day and did not agree with it in the slightest. He soon put actions into motion to stop this immigration, at a cost that no one agreed with. He felt a wall should be built at the border, in order to try and stop illegal immigration from continuing to occur. Because of this wall, it sparked many differing opinions among the citizens of the United States, as well as people outside of the country. Not a lot of people agreed with it, saying it was cruel and that there were better ways to handle the situation. However, there were also many who did, infact, agree with the former president’s actions. No matter how people felt on the matter, immigration affects everyone in the country today. It affects citizens by taking away jobs from legal citizens and overpopulation, among many other things. However, it has not, in any way, affected me personally.
One issue that I find brings politics into my life every day is paying taxes on everything. It starts with getting paid by your employer, federal, state, and social security taxes are taken out of your check before you even get it. After you cash your check and go to the store you pay a local sales tax on the money you are spending. Now keep in mind that you have already paid a state sales tax before you were paid. This is not all the taxes that you pay on money that’s already been taxes at the beginning. You must pay school board taxes, property taxes, and what really get me is a death tax when a loved one dies. When the Federal reserve was set up in 1913 (federalreseve.gov) the income tax system was meant to be a short-term thing in order to offset the short falls of government spending. It later became something that is just a part of life as American’s that we must endure. Live, Die and Pay Taxes. Three things that everyone must do in order to be an American.
It is my opinion that the Tax system in the United States needs to be reformed and certain parts of it done away with all together. Citizens should not have to pay taxes every time they buy something. Taxes should be limited to a single rate based on how much you make and should only be paid once. This is something that has affected me as a worker for my employer and as a small business owner myself. While I know some people will disagree with me on these points, it is something that needs to be addressed by the government. I have the perfect solution for the problem of paying taxes on everything. When you are budgeting in your own home you know how much money you have and what you can spend before you are out of money, this same concept can be applied to the federal government too. They government knows how much money that is going to be paid in at the end of the year. That should give them a budget for the following year on how much they can spend before they are out of money. It would stop the government for extending the debt ceiling every year and would help us pay down this astronomical debt that our children and grandchildren will never pay back.
