Avoid approaching this essay in a vacuum or as a labeling exercise of logos/pathos/ethos; instead ask yourself why and how the author creates a sense of urgency and validity to her argument.
Focus on specific rhetorical choices and effects, and support your analysis with textual evidence, writing specifically rather than generally.
Less is often more; go for depth rather than breadth.
A few reminders about incorporating textual evidence:
Provide textual evidence with summary, paraphrases, and quotes (sparingly), but avoid quoting long passages. Do include parenthetical citations in MLA format.
A works cited page is required
Paper 2 will be graded according to the following criteria (as well as the WRTR rubric):
A compelling, focused, and relevant examination of the assignment question Fluid embedding of textual evidence from the course texts
Organization – clear thesis, focused topic sentences, and a balance of evidence and commentary
Old/New transitions (see Style) and grammatical correctness
