analysis with the ETA, Euskadi Ta Askatasuna, translated to English, Basque Home
analysis with the ETA, Euskadi Ta Askatasuna, translated to English, Basque Homeland and Liberty, is a Basque separatist group in Spain. Well, sort of. First, the Basque have their own separate language which is not Indo-European nor has any Roman base nor has any association with Spanish (or Freench). The Basque area is focused on the Pyrenees. This is a mountain range that separates Spain from France. So, the Basque speaking people live in the Spanish provinces of Álava, Guipúzcoa, and Vizcaya (Biscay) and also in the French département of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. (France has 13 regions on the mainland. A region is divided into départements. A département is a local administrative unit. My best approximation for a département in France would be similar to a county in the US.) As usual, this can be confusing. So, the Basque border two countries, the are ethnically distinct, and the have a separatist/nationalist movement. The map below should assist you in understanding the area.
