The differences in lived experiences of DuBois and Washington
The different assumptions about White society held by DuBois and Washington
or more… This written response should be at least 350 words minimum. You are encouraged to write more if this assignment is something you want to really dig into. Advice:
What to do:
Review the grading rubric before you start.
Use only the materials provided in this course.
Gather notes as you review the materials.
Focus on the words of the primary sources, what do they have in common? Write what you think, these are your own answers. Include topic sentences (theses): Put your answer to each question right up at the beginning of each paragraph. Spend the rest of the paragraph explaining why you came to that answer.
Use short phrases from the materials as evidence of why you came to that answer. Write everything in your own words. What not to do:
Do not use long quotes from any source, this assignment does not need any quotes to complete it.
If you do use quotes, use only short three or four word phrases. Use quote marks. Identify the author in parens. Do not go outside of our course to look up additional information. You do not need to do this. It will only make the assignment harder to do.
Do not copy sentences from any source into your notes or into your response. Do not worry, or spend an enormous amount of time stressed out trying to determine the exact right response. Yes, there are some true generalities in this material that we should be able to recognize in your description, but this is about hearing from you, your voice, your evidence-based interpretation. Do not fear that you will not do well in this class because writing is not easy for you. Just keep writing.
