Please write a literature review for me following the rubric I attached below. The main idea needs to be about how social class affects academic acheievement. I will give you the links to the sources I want used and I’m going to copy and paste an excerpt that I wrote that will help give an idea of what the essay needs to be about.
The topic that I wanted to explore was the impact of social class on academic achievement. And the first articles that were being shown to me were things that I could’ve guessed helped higher income students become successful: private schools and legacy admission. But, I wanted to delve deeper into the mindsets of the low-income student vs. the high income student and see what separates the two. So, I added phrases like “psychology” and “mindset” into my searches and started to get closer to what I was looking for. I came across a couple articles that had to do with child psychology and how parental achievement at a young age created the foundation for how the child perceives education later in life. This led me to ask the question “why do students follow the same patterns as their parents if they know it’s not a good path?” which allowed me to come across an article explaining the psychology of socioeconomic classes in depth. This really opened my eyes to ideas I had never thought about before and sparked my interest. I wanted to get to the root of why high-income students performed better in school than low-income students and this article definitely explained it well. I guess a strategy that helped me get to this place was by literally asking google questions. If I had a question that wasn’t too in depth and I asked google, it usually popped right up. A line of thought that I’m beginning to form is the question of why it is so difficult for low-income students to “break the chain” of not performing well in school and becoming stuck in the situation they were born into. Is it just comfortable or is it impossible? I believe that this is a topic I want to research further.
